When life gives you lemons.... and limes...

Hey y'all! Well, I'm having a Tastefully Simple party here tonight and I picked up this bowl of lemons and limes to go with the drinks.....You know Summer is fast approaching when I keep limes in a bowl! They are resting in my Maw Maw's biscuit bowl... I remember her making homemade biscuits almost every day... There's all of these nooks and crannies worn into the finish. It's an awesome bowl.

When life gives you lemons

I've been working on some wall monograms from Wonderful Graffiti... Here's the dining room... Check out my husband's grandfather's service picture. Wasn't he a cutie!!!

The one above my bed is very subtle... but will be wonderful once the curtains are up!

Y'all have a great weekend! (Maybe I'll get those curtains done!!!)

Blah Blah Blah Blah Blog

That's just how I feel about "journal-ing" on the Internet... For a chatty person like me, blogging can prove to be a HUGE time consuming venture... Just this morning, as I was taking pics of the waffles, I thought... "why the heck am I taking pictures of a waffle..." "and why am I taking multiple pictures of said waffle, adjusting my camera settings to get the picture Just Right..." And why on earth would ANYONE care to see what I made my kids for breakfast...

It's getting to the point now, where every time I do something, I want to take out the camera and snap a couple of pics to post... It's really bizarre... I've never kept a diary... I never even wrote down what I did during the day on a calendar (not even when I was pregnant)... I hate scrapbooking... b/c I hate to write everything down... Seriously, (and I know my sister would be appalled to know) I don't even write in a baby book for the girls... So why on EARTH do I find bloggin appealing?!?!?

Heck! I'm even decorating my house (finally!) more just so I can post pictures of what I've done... It's almost a Middle Child syndrome thing of "Hey! Look at me! Look at what I did!!!!" Maybe that's it... Maybe we're all just dying for some attention.... Or maybe we all find it an easier way of expressing ourselves in a time where email has surpassed the hand-written note. Whatever it is... it's pretty damn fun.... So Blog away guys! Blog away.....

Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, BLAH!

:-)

I'm the best mom EVER!

Or at least that's what the girls say when I make them "Mom's Super-Duper Mommy Waffles" for breakfast... :-) Oh the simplicity of childhood... just give your kids chocolate for breakfast. They'll love you forever. ;-)

Mom's Super Duper Mommy Waffles

Actually, the waffles aren't THAT bad for them... It's a whole grain waffle spread with a bit of peanut butter (aka protein) and drizzled with a bit of Hershey's syrup (the sugar free kind)... Serve with a big ole cup of milk, and you turn into the BEST MOM EVER! :-) Now how's that for sneaking in some nutrition!

Ginger Blossom Love

Good Morning Ya'll!

I got this Lovely package from
Hancock's of Paducah yesterday filled with all kinds of yummies! Yeah!!! My Moda Strawberry Lemonade charm packs AND my pack of SUPER CUTE Ginger Blossom squares!!! I had to use them immediately so I put together some new magnets for my garage door. I couldn't wait for them to dry, so the pic is of them on my fridge :-)

Ginger Blossom magnets

This will be their "final resting place"... It looks horrible now, but I promise it will be all neat and tidy soon! eh.... notice the calendar says August! I DO have good intentions, but it seems to NEVER happen! :-)

Your Birth Verse

Recently a friend of mine sent me an email with a link to http://www.birthverse.com where I could look up my birthday. My birthday is August 21st, and this is what it said:

Proverbs 8:21 NIV bestowing wealth on those who love me and making their treasuries full.

I found this pretty surreal given the fact that I've always tried to find ways to give back to those in more need than myself. (Not to mention my incessant need to give away anything that people ask me for!) Even through elementary school projects I have always felt a sense of fulfillment in giving. I believe we are given a divine responsibility to do for others.

Over the holidays a friend and I organized a food drive for the local food bank. She had witnessed a mother and her children turned away because they lacked the needed items to provide for them. Now, we live in an upper middle class area... Why on EARTH would wouth the food bank not have enough to feed this woman and her little family! I think it's because we are so unaware of what's going on around us. We are so focused on our own lives and believe that someone else will take care of it. We forget that there are thousands of working poor who struggle to meet their families needs on a day to day basis.

This all leads me to the new organization I found. It's called the Modest Needs Foundation. They receive applications from people who are in need and help gather money from those willing to help. The requests for help are well researched and verified. Also, if there are organizations like the Salvation Army who can offer their assistance, Modest Needs will help those in need get in touch with the right people who can help. I just set up an account for a weekly donation. When you do a reoccurring donation, there is a matching fund, so you're able to give more help to those who need it. Anyway, with my meager donation I was able to help a woman pay for the gas she needed to bring her recently molested daughter to the Dr. appointments that she needs. You can seek out Military families in need of assistance, elderly people who need help paying for their medications, battered women who are struggling to pay rent to leave their abusive relationships... and the list goes on.

If you are so inclined to help, please go to the link on the side of my page and find out how you can help make a real difference in someones life. It only takes a few minutes and may be just what someone needs to get them through the day.

Grow Baby Grow!

Hey Ya'll!

Today the girls and I hit Home Depot pretty early and got our Spring garden fix started. We are working on plants to help make salsa, salad, and lemonade! I even threw in a little of my neighbors mint to put into iced tea this summer... MMMMMM

We've never actually grown veggies but I hope that it's not THAT hard! Unfortunately I also had to figure out how to protect my little babies from the cold tonight as it's supposed to be near freezing... You know what they say about weather in the South... If you don't like how the weather is, just give it a minute and it'll change. Happy Growing!

Shock and Awe

Good morning ya'll!

Well, this morning as I was going through my daily routine... make my bed while trying to not actually get out of it, dress, coffee, coffee, and more coffee.... I wandered onto a blog that I visit occasionally. Eren, it's creator, is very talented and I enjoy her posts. This morning as I was reading around, her
newest posting gave me a real wake up "jolt" like no latte could. I hope you all will venture into her blog and read what she says reguarding our rememberance of the war.

I also believe that it's very funny how we all tend to be speeding up. Speeding up to what? Wont the dishes and laundry be there (and have multiplied) tomorrow? Do we REALLY need to have that PERFECT party favor for school? And will 6 year olds really appreciate all of the time and money you spent in making it? Do 4 year olds need their birthday parties to be so "perfectly" coordinated that their outfit matches the napkins?

I keep telling myself (along with many friends...hhhmmmm.. and family, who think I'm nuts... and you KNOW who you are ;-)) that I KNOW it's not required, but it's how I find peace in the daily mundane. I LIKE planning parties. I've already started getting ideas together for my 6 turning 7 year olds party in July. It's how I show love. I LIKE browsing around junk shops for months and finally finding the best mirror for my daughters room. I show love to my family by giving them what a feel is a lovingly decorated home. I function better with surroudings that I deam beautiful. I also think that a lovely bedroom becomes a sanctuary for the person to whom it belongs. It's not so horrible to do laundry when your laundry room is organized and decorated. I like entertaining friends in a home that creates a welcoming environment for them to relax and enjoy the bit of time we have to spend with them. It's a bit Martha Stewart meets Stepford wife, but dad-gummit, I like it that way!

A friend of mine called me a GRITS the other day. I think that's about as close to correct as it gets. (GRITS = Girl Raised In The South) I think that it has bearing on where I am in life too. For many people my age, this is hard to understand. I do believe that I have an old soul. Or at least that's how I explain away my love for all things vintage.

So, with ALL of that being said... the next time you run into a GRITS... be nice. She may just be kookiest and fascinating friend you ever make ;-)

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I hope you have all had your fill of green today! Speaking of green, the trees are really starting to turn the brightest Spring green. I love this time of year!

For school, my older daughter's class had to make Leprechaun Traps... Here's my husbands rendition....hhhmmm.... my daughter's version... :-) Seriously, it WAS a team effort... Abby wanted to use more glitter though! Apparently those sneaky little guys don't obey signs, so she put together a little sign that says Do Not Ring the Bell! Pretty funny, if you ask me. ;-)

I also finally finished putting together one corner of my bedroom....!!!! Ahhh, sweet success. After wrestling with 18 tangled yards of linen this weekend, I finally have one window done.

Here is a before pic of my boring bedroom....

Here's during.... Notice the appropriately Shabby Euro style blue walls.... MMMMM..... So restful and reminds me of our trip to the Mediterranean....

And here's my new reading nook!!!! I can't wait to get myself a hot cup of herbal tea and dig into a new book!

One corner down.... 3 more corners, and walls to go! Yeah! I also finally shipped off some pics of the trip to have blown up... Voila'! Instant Art!

Hope you guys have a lovely evening. See you soon!

NEW DAY

Hi guys!
Did you wonder where I went? Well, I was so lovingly warned, by mom, about posting the girls pictures onto the Internet. I was sufficiently freaked out by the idea of psycho predators tracking my kids down that I just deleted the whole thing and decided to start anew.
Of course... that means all of my regular posts were deleted too, so maybe that wasn't the best way of going about it! I'm OF COURSE going to re-post the work site.... But after that, I'll have to start all over!
I'm off to start working on the new format. In the meantime... GO OUTSIDE! It's a lovely Palm Sunday!
